Local SEO Case Study · Furniture Repair

From Invisible to Booked: Local SEO for a Furniture Repair Company

A family-run, on-site furniture repair business with 30 years of reputation had a dated Joomla site and a thin Google presence. We rebuilt the website, the Google Business Profile and the local footprint in English and French. Here is exactly what we did, and what it produced.

The Starting Point

A trusted local name that Google could barely see

The company repairs and restores furniture at customers' homes across the city and its surrounding suburbs. Referrals had carried it for decades, but online the foundations were weak, and in a bilingual market every gap cost enquiries.

The audit found problems that compound: wrong signals tell Google, and customers, not to trust a business.

  • Outdated Joomla website with generic AI-generated images
  • No proper service or service-area pages to rank
  • Only 5 of 10 location pages linked from the footer and navigation
  • A "Call Us Now" button on the Service Areas page pointing to an old phone number
  • Three directory listings carrying outdated name, address and phone details
  • Few services and weak category setup on Google Business Profile
  • No topical plan covering both English and French searches
  • Phone-answering hours not matched to the hours shown on Google
The Strategy

Five phases, one connected local SEO system

Instead of random tasks, we worked in a deliberate order: measure first, fix the website, win Google Maps, build topical depth, then earn authority.

1

Audit, baseline and benchmarking

Know exactly where we started
  • Canonical name, address and phone locked into one source-of-truth document
  • Baseline: Map Pack position screenshots for priority terms, 6 months of Search Console and GA4 data, review count and rating
  • Competitor benchmark of two direct local competitors: categories, review velocity, site structure
  • Free Screaming Frog crawl for orphan pages, crawl depth, robots.txt and sitemap
  • Core Web Vitals check on the location pages, the money pages
  • Image compression audit ahead of a larger volume of Business Profile photos
2

Website migration and rebuild

A site built to rank and convert
  • Migrated the website from Joomla to WordPress
  • Redesigned with proper branding, SEO-optimised content and conversion-focused layouts
  • Replaced AI-generated images with real project photos
  • Embedded Google Maps on the site
  • Added dedicated service pages and service-area pages
  • Whole-site internal linking, plus nearby-location cross-links between area pages
  • Fixed the footer and navigation so all 10 location pages are linked
  • Fixed the mismatched "Call Us Now" button on the Service Areas page
  • Reworked title tags: compelling, keyword-rich first 60 characters, with neighbourhood terms in the overflow
3

Google Business Profile optimisation

Winning the Map Pack
  • Comprehensive optimisation with primary and secondary categories
  • Added more services, each with a 300–500 character description
  • Geo-tagged images and regular Business Profile posts
  • Weekly GBP maintenance rhythm kept running throughout
  • Phone-answering hours reviewed so Google hours match when calls are actually handled
  • A questionable service area evaluated honestly: build it out genuinely or remove it
4

Bilingual content and structured data

Depth Google and AI search can trust
  • Topical and keyword map in English and French: parent topics, sub-topics, location modifiers
  • Rebuilt six location pages with genuine local detail: neighbourhoods, landmarks, local proof points
  • French-language parity on every rebuilt or new page
  • Real customer FAQs per page, drawn from GBP Q&A, sales calls and reviews, with FAQPage schema matching the visible text
  • AI-citable blog posts on cost, process and repair-vs-replace, with the question in the H2 and a direct answer first, each linked to a service or location page
  • Schema plan: Organization and LocalBusiness sitewide, Service schema per service page, AggregateRating from genuine reviews only, all validated in Google's Rich Results Test
5

Citations, authority and social proof

Consistent everywhere customers look
  • Corrected the 3 existing directory listings to the canonical details
  • Citation build across 9 further local and general business directories
  • Joined the local Chamber of Commerce
  • Outreach to established retail partners for case-study mentions and testimonial links
  • Listings on 2–3 furniture-repair and upholstery directories, plus reviews on a non-Google platform
  • Local business-press angle: 30 years, family-run, on-site service
  • Reactivated Facebook with before-and-after project content and rebuilt the Pinterest board
  • Ongoing social media posts

From near-zero clicks to steady daily search traffic

Search Console shows 995 clicks and 29.5K impressions over 12 months at a 3.4% click-through rate. Daily clicks sat near zero in late 2025 and now arrive almost every day, as the new pages were indexed and began ranking.

Page-one rankings in English and French

Every query below averages a top-10 position, and one high-intent service search averages position 1.9. Bilingual content is why the French queries, which had no dedicated content before, now bring clicks.

Website visitors became enquiries

Google Analytics 4 tracking covers the actions that matter. In one 28-day window (8 September – 5 October 2026), a small, local audience of 182 visitors produced:

25online form submissions from 22 visitors
12WhatsApp button clicks

About 1 in 8 visitors (12%) submitted the enquiry form, on top of the 48 calls made from the Business Profile in September. That is the effect of real photos, clear service pages and a visible next step on every page.

Key Takeaways

What this project shows about local SEO

Consistency builds trust

One canonical name, address and phone across site, Business Profile and directories removes the mixed signals that hold local rankings back.

Real beats generic

Genuine project photos and local detail on every area page serve customers and Google better than stock imagery and templated copy.

Bilingual is a growth channel

In a bilingual market, French-language parity unlocks searches that English-only sites never reach.

Maps and website work together

The Business Profile creates the first contact, and fast, well-linked service pages turn it into a call, a form or a WhatsApp message.

FAQ

Local SEO for repair businesses: common questions

How long did it take to see results?

Search impressions built steadily over the first months, and Business Profile calls more than doubled across the five months measured. Most local businesses see meaningful movement within 3–6 months.

Can a service-area business rank in Google Maps?

Yes. Accurate categories, a complete services list, geo-tagged photos, consistent business details and dedicated service-area pages all help a business that travels to customers.

Why does bilingual SEO matter?

Many customers search in French. Planning keywords and pages in both languages captures demand that English-only sites miss.

Is a website redesign part of local SEO?

Often yes. Fast pages, real photos, clear service pages and an easy way to call, message or request a quote affect both rankings and how many visitors become customers.
